On Saturday night (12 December) Miss Beach Bikini Kaiane Aldorino scooped the Miss World 2009 title at the pageant that strutted Gallagher Convention Centre in Jozi, South Africa.
Also known as Miss Gibraltar, Kaiane was handed the crown by Russia's Ksenia Sukhinova, who doesn't seem to have aged a day since she won the title exactly a year ago.
Missing the crown by moments were runners-up Perla Beltrán Acosta of Mexico (1st Princess) and Tatum Keshwar of South Africa (2nd Princess), who didn't get any sort of flashy jewellry to celebrate but seemed pleased enough.
Some notably glitzy facts: this is the sixth year Mexico has been in the Top 3 and the second year for South Africa. The most popular name in the competition? Maria. A trend that happens annually. Seven finalists wore the name.
